Laser refractive surgery has seen a significant increase in popularity over the past decade. This popular  procedure is done as a corrective measure for those suffering from nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism.  Millions of these procedures have been performed throughout the country with an overwhelming rate of satisfaction.

At the Castleman Eye Center, we feel it is imperative for our patients to fully understand what occurs before, during and after their procedure. Alleviating the fear of the unknown helps patient's to be prepared and relaxed. The entire procedure has been "mapped out" based on your individual testing results and when this information is used by our experienced surgeon, the exact changes in the shape of your cornea will change your life forever.

Commitment to Safety

Safety, sterilization and infection control is of utmost importance to us.  To protect our patients and ourselves, we strictly maintain sterilization and safety standards to ensure you are protected at all times.  Safety checks in our on-site LASIK suite include triple-checking of eye measurements and calibrating equipment before each procedure.  Our state-of-the-art equipment is designed for maximum safetly and includes the VISX S4, Eye Tracker laser with Iris Registration.  This technology provides an exceptional level of accuracy in correcting your vision.  In addition, our support staff are all certified VISX Laser technicians.

Here is what you can expect on your LASIK day:
Before the procedure:
You will be greeted by one of our highly experienced LASIK technicians who will review your medical history, obtain your blood pressure and heart rate, and prep your eyes for surgery. You may receive a low dosage of a relaxant.

During the procedure:
Once you are comfortable in a reclining chair in the laser room, we will apply some eye drops to "numb" your eye(s). The doctor will sit just above your head and look down into your eyes through a microscope attached to the laser. The doctor will talk to you throughout the entire procedure to let you know what is occurring and what to expect next.

The surgeon will painlessly create a flap in the cornea. The actual shaping of your cornea is based on Wavescan calculations specific to the measurements of your eyes that have been entered into the laser's computer. The surgeon reshapes the cornea using the laser, which usually lasts less than (1) minute. The flap is repositioned and allowed to self-adhere in just a few minutes. The tissue is left intact and the eye is protected. The procedure is then repeated on the second eye.

Step 1
A thin flap is created on the cornea.

Step 2
A laser is used to reshape the cornea.

Step 3
The flap is put
back into position.

After the procedure:

The surgeon will evaluate the corneal flap created during the procedure, which usually heals in approximately (6) hours. Shields or goggles are applied to prevent inadvertent rubbing or debris to the eyes. A postoperative kit will be distributed. We advise you to rest for the remainder of the day and to apply eye drops according to the prescribed regimen. You will be seen by a doctor the very next day and we will continue to monitor your success at your regularly scheduled follow-up visits.

Because there is minimal disturbance to the tissue of the eyes, patients describe a high comfort level after LASIK and state they notice a rapid improvement in their vision.

Ride the Wave to Better Vision with CustomVue™ Advanced LASIK!

Castleman Eye Center is excited to offer patients the opportunity to see better than ever before. That’s right. With CustomVue™ Advanced LASIK, using WaveScan technology, individuals have the potential to see better than 20/20.

Computer Driven LASER Vision Correction

CustomVue™ Advanced LASIK uses WaveScan technology that was originally developed for use in high-powered telescopes that reduced distortions when viewing distant objects in space. This technology has now been applied to LASER vision correction. It captures unique imperfections in each individual’s vision that could not have been measured before, using standard methods. This new level of measurement provides 25 times more precision than standard measurements for glasses or contacts.

WaveScan technology drives the CustomVue™ procedure using advanced technology to measure and correct unique imperfections in an individual’s eyes. Best of all, patients will notice results immediately and vision will continue to improve over the next few days. One of the biggest differences between Standard LASIK and CustomVue™ is there is less glare noticed with night vision.  You can also treat higher levels of prescriptions with CustomVue™ LASIK.

A New Level of Excellence Impossible with Glasses or Contacts

  • More than 92 percent could pass a driving test without glasses or contact lenses one year after treatment.
  • Almost three quarters of all clinical study participants could see 20/20 or better without glasses or contact lenses one year after treatment.
