Taylor, MI  LASIK Eye Surgery-Castleman Eye Center

Standard LASIK surgery  is used to correct the most simple of vision problems.  Standard LASIK was the procedure used to correct vision for many years with great success and patients still opt for it today.  It is the more affordable option for many patients.

Basic myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism can all be easily corrected with this elective surgery.

The term "LASIK" is an acronym for laser assisted in situ keratomileusis. Lots of big words there, but it all adds up to better vision afterwards.

Commitment to Safety

Safety, sterilization and infection control is of utmost importance to us.  To protect our patients and ourselves, we strictly maintain sterilization and safety standards to ensure you are protected at all times.  Safety checks in our on-site LASIK suite include triple-checking of eye measurements and calibrating equipment before each procedure.  Our state-of-the-art equipment is designed for maximum safety and includes the VISX S4, Eye Tracker laser with Iris Registration.  This technology provides an exceptional level of accuracy in correcting your vision. In addition, our experienced support staff are all certified VISX Laser technicians.

Here is what happens during Standard LASIK surgery:

  • First, the eye is numbed with anesthetic drops.
  • Then a flap is created and  lifted away by the surgeon. This reveals the corneal tissue beneath and is where the vision correction by laser is made.
  • Then pulses of the VISX S4 laser emits a cool beam of light and is applied to the inner corneal tissues. These pulses of cool laser are completely computer controlled and you hear a clicking sound as the laser pulses.
  • This allows the surgeon to  reshape the inner corneal tissue to, in essence, replicate your present eyeglass prescription.
  • The flap is replaced in position and will heal naturally on its' own.

This procedure is known to greatly  improve daytime vision.  It is possible that you may notice some glare at nightime with Standard LASIK surgery.   In order to achieve a more accurate correction of day and night vision, a newer method called Custom Wavefront LASIK surgery is offered.  Your doctor will advise which procedure is best for your vision correction surgery.
